From the Field: Life Changing Stories of our Graduates

Mar 6, 2025 | News
There is no better way to demonstrate the power each and every one of us can have to change the lives of vulnerable women and girls, than to share this update from our Field Partner, 3 Angels Nepal’s (3AN) co-Founder, Sarah.

In this inspiring reflection Sarah shares about her visit to graduates from the Women’s Safe Haven, a home providing long-term safety, physical and mental health care and ongoing support for women and girls rescued from human trafficking.

But it’s also far, far more than that. It’s creating courageous changemakers bravely speaking out about their experiences, to empower each other and fight for the rights of all women and girls in their communities. Read on to learn more.

Reflections from Sarah, co-founder 3 Angels Nepal

“Vivek, our senior officer, and I embarked on a transformative journey through Bhairahawa, Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, and Kanchanpur in Nepal. We reconnected with survivors supported
by 3 Angels Nepal (3AN) since its inception, and what we witnessed was truly inspiring.

Our field visits coincided with the completion of our Women Safe Haven (WSH) impact survey. The survey revealed a heartening reality: nearly all beneficiaries are now engaged in income-generating activities. From tailoring and beauty parlour work to running tea shops and farming, these women have carved out new lives for themselves. They have not only been reintegrated into their communities but have also embraced new roles as wives and mothers, living happily with their families.

The transformation facilitated by [the] WSH is profound. This haven goes beyond meeting their physical, mental, and spiritual needs—it empowers them. The women we met now see themselves as vital agents of change. Inspired by the female leaders at 3 Angels Nepal, they believe in their capacity to make significant societal contributions. They confidently speak out in public, raising their voices against stigmas and discriminatory practices in their communities.

One woman’s story stood out. Tara, who once feared speaking her mind, now leads a community group advocating for women’s rights. Her journey from victim to leader encapsulates the mission of 3 Angels Nepal. Tara’s confidence and determination have not only changed her life but have also inspired countless others.

To further support these courageous women, and being a trained and professional Psychosocial Counsellor, my heart goes out to mothers and children who desperately need training on child psychology and healthy child-rearing practices to ensure the next generation is nurtured with care. Addressing malnutrition among pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and their infants is also a priority.

Looking ahead when each one of them see me as their mother with hope, I want to personally intensify efforts to empower these beneficiaries as community change agents. Each woman will embody the mission of 3 Angels Nepal, driven to stop trafficking, alleviate generational poverty, and speak out against violence and discriminatory practices against women.

Witnessing the smiles and successes has always been the most rewarding experience for both Rajendra and I. Girls running up to me to give a hug did miss Rajendra this time, however, the joy I experienced is what I couldn’t stop sharing with you because you have been the reason of this joy and such huge success stories. I sincerely pray and hope that our journey in transforming lives will continue in the year ahead. May you be richly blessed!”

The current Women’s Safe Haven continues to provide vital support for women and girls rescued from human trafficking, but their safety is constantly under threat. The current Women’s Safe Haven is located within a busy city, and human traffickers constantly lay in wait outside of the compound.

That’s why we’re building a new Women’s Safe Haven as part of Stage 1 of The Pokhara Project. The new safe haven will provide survivors of trafficking with a safe place to heal, connect and learn new skills to build an independent life of empowerment.

You can play a vital role in fighting for all women and girls, and help us continue to empower a new generation of survivors.
