Women’s Safe Haven

19,700 girls and women are trafficked out of Nepal and into a life of slavery in India each year**

4,837 girls and women are rescued from slavery by 3 Angels Nepal, or have the trafficking process intercepted, each year**

** yearly average, 3 Angels Nepal 2021

Refuge for Trafficked Women

Your gift will help our Field Partner, 3 Angels Nepal, build a new safe haven for trafficked women like Sarita. The Women’s Safe Haven will provide up to 40 women with medical care, counselling, legal support, vocational training, and a strong supportive community as they begin the process of recovering from extreme trauma.

“Sarita, you have
been SOLD.”

Sarita* had just given birth when she was sold by her husband. Her baby was taken from her and never seen again.

You can help build a safe haven—where trafficked women like Sarita can find freedom, restoration, education and empowerment.

Women’s Safe Haven

The new women’s safe haven will be low maintenance, sustainable, and built to withstand Nepal’s level 5 earthquake zone and extreme monsoon conditions. The building will include acute care rooms, private and group counselling rooms, vocational training facilities and extra security such as CCTV and 24/hr onsite security.

This new home will protect and boost the capacity of 3 Angels Nepal’s anti-trafficking work for the long term—ensuring that countless more women like Ashra* can find freedom, restoration, education and empowerment.

Every single dollar goes to the field

Thank you for your generosity! You can fully fund the construction of the Women’s Safe Haven with a gift of $500,000 or part-fund* the build with an amount of your choice. All Australian donations over $5 are fully tax deductible—and 100% will go directly to the field.

Funding Policy: 100% of all gifts made here will be directed to Give Freedom International program. Give Freedom’s program focus is infrastructure and capacity-building work known as The Pokhara Project, in partnership with 3 Angels Nepal, which includes the construction of vulnerable children’s homes. Please note that a limited proportion of these funds may be directed to disaster relief and other emergency support for our Field Partner prior to the completion of their new facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sarita’s story true?
Yes, all of the stories shared here are the real stories of safe haven women, shared with permission. To uphold the safety and dignity of these brave women, we will always use pseudonyms as indicated by the use of an asterisk. The images associated with each story (for example, the image of Sarita*) are representational only. While we do share some real images of safe haven women (such as the group photo below), we will never do so where the specifics of trauma and violence can be linked to any individual. We acknowledge the difficult line we walk in sharing these stories—we would never want to contribute to the ongoing trauma of any victim of human trafficking, nor be exploitative in any way. This is a responsibility we feel deeply, and we commit to being open to learn and make changes when needed.
When will construction of the new women’s safe haven start?
Short answer: as soon as possible! Realistically, it may be a few years before we can begin construction. The land has been purchased, and the architectural designs are ready to go. Now we need to raise the funds needed to complete the build. The women’s safe haven is one part of the The Pokhara Project—and to ensure the most efficient and cost effective building process we will wait to commence construction on the full sustainable building project. This means waiting until The Pokhara Project is fully funded. The sooner we reach our funding goal, the sooner we can begin—the ideal time to start building works in Nepal is in September of any given year, due to the monsoon season.
Why is a new women’s safe haven needed?
The current women’s safe haven is in operation and continues to equip 3 Angels Nepal to serve many women who have been trafficked. Give Freedom International’s goal is to increase the capacity and impact of established, locally-run NGOs like 3 Angels Nepal, through sustainable infrastructure projects.

The new women’s safe haven will be purpose-built, low maintenance, sustainable and will withstand Nepal’s level 5 earthquake zone and extreme monsoon conditions. These new facilities will secure the rescue and rehabilitation work of 3 Angels Nepal for the long term.

The women’s safe haven is also one part of The Pokhara Project—designed to provide sustainable facilities for all of 3 Angel’s Nepal’s programs. Centralising these facilities will not only enable our Field Partner to efficiently manage their day-to-day operations, but it will also provide a more safe and secure environment for all of the women and at-risk children that participate in the full breadth of 3 Angels Nepal’s programs.

What will happen to the current women’s safe haven?
We fundraised for the purchase of the current women’s safe haven and adjoining block of land back in 2011. Moving out of rented facilities gave our Field Partner, 3 Angels Nepal, much needed stability and security. When this new facility is built, the current safe haven home will be sold and the funds will be directed back into the running of 3 Angels Nepal’s programs and support their dream of self-sufficiency.
